Kompenso: the app for complex damage calculations

The challenge

In 2022, Wolters Kluwer unexpectedly discontinued Repair, their online damage calculation module that had been the standard for Belgian law firms for many years. Thousands of legal practitioners lost access to their trusted tool for drawing up damage claims for personal injuries.

For many professionals, this meant an unwanted return to the drawing board: spreadsheets and manual calculations became the norm again. However, this manual work creates an enormous bottleneck in a modern practice. It consumes time, increases the risk of human error and causes unnecessary delays in drawing up personal injury claims. The need for an innovative solution that takes the complexity off their hands was greater than ever.

Working smarter thanks to modern technology

In response to this problem, we developed "Kompenso" together with Konsilio Advocaten: the software for calculating personal injury damages.

An intuitive web application that digitalizes the entire process of damage calculation.
The impact for lawyers is immediately noticeable: what was previously a hours-long calculation has now become a smooth and error-free process. Thanks to the web-based architecture, the tool is accessible anywhere, allowing professionals to build on their own data at any time and from any location.

Kompenso offers a complete toolkit with five specialized modules covering all possible damage items, from temporary incapacity to fatal injury damages.

The system distinguishes itself through smart automation: indicative tables and interest rates are continuously updated, ensuring that calculations are always based on the most current figures.

Whether opting for the lump sum method or a complex capitalization, the software automatically adjusts the coefficients based on the specific situation. This makes calculations and recalculations quick and straightforward.

Via a central dashboard, all case files remain clearly organized and within easy reach for a lawyer. With the press of a button, a professional report is generated in PDF or Word format, ready for immediate use in any legal proceeding.

The indispensable value of automation and AI

In an era where technology sets the standard, automation is the only way forward to remain competitive. This also applies to the legal profession, where last year the first example in England was shown of a law firm without lawyers. We also already demonstrated for RIDE that the use of AI avatars for lawyers is not a thing of the future but a reality.
